In a gesture of recognition for the significant cultural event, Jamia Millia Islamia has declared a half-day off on January 22, aligning with the Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha ceremony at Ayodhya. The university, along with its schools, will remain closed till 2.30 pm, allowing students and staff to participate in or observe the historic consecration of the Ram temple.
An official notification from the university clarified that this half-day closure applies to all maintained institutions, centers, and offices affiliated with Jamia Millia Islamia. However, it emphasized that examinations and meetings previously scheduled for the day will proceed as planned.
The decision comes in response to an Office Memorandum from the Government of India (F.No 12/7/2023 JCA), approving the half-day closure till 2.30 pm on January 22, 2024, specifically for the occasion of Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha at Ayodhya. The university’s move is part of acknowledging and respecting the cultural and religious significance of the event.
The Personnel Ministry’s order extends the half-day closure to all central government offices across the country on January 22, aligning with the sentiments expressed by people nationwide. Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh highlighted the overwhelming public demand for such a decision, emphasizing the need to consider the sentiments surrounding this auspicious ceremony.
The consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla on January 22 will witness Prime Minister Narendra Modi presiding over the event. Joining him on the dais will be Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, along with several other dignitaries. The ceremony, set to begin at 12.20 pm, will be performed by the priest Lakshmi Kant Dixit from Varanasi. It is expected to conclude by 1 pm.
The selected idol of Ram Lalla, crafted by Mysore-based sculptor Arun Yogiraj, will be the centerpiece of the consecration ceremony. The rituals, spanning seven days, commenced on Tuesday, encompassing various forms of puja. Notably, the deity of Ram Lalla will undergo a divine bath with 125 urns on January 21 as part of the elaborate rituals leading up to the main event.
Following the consecration ceremony, the Ram temple will open its doors to devotees, symbolizing a significant milestone in the cultural and religious landscape of India. Thousands of pilgrims and tourists from across the nation are expected to visit the temple daily, highlighting the widespread significance of this monumental event in Ayodhya’s history.
