Festival of Nari Shakti

As the Budget Session 2024 gets underway, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the “festival of Nari Shakti,” emphasizing the significance of women’s empowerment in India. The session is set to commence on January 31, with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha at 11 am.

Prime Minister Modi reflected on the recently passed Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam during the first session in the new Parliament building. He remarked, “On January 26, we saw how the country experienced the capability, valour, and strength of Nari Shakti.” In anticipation of the Budget Session, Modi highlighted the guidance of President Droupadi Murmu and the upcoming presentation of the interim budget by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, characterizing it as a celebration of Nari Shakti.

Expressing confidence in a third consecutive term for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 2024 Lok Sabha Polls, Modi stated, “We are going to follow the tradition of presenting a full budget after the new government is formed.”

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to present the interim budget on February 1, Thursday. The session, which precedes the Lok Sabha polls expected in April-May, will span eight sittings over ten days.

According to the list of business provided by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, proceedings in both Houses will commence half an hour after the President’s address. The Secretary Generals of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha will present a copy of the President’s address on the table of their respective Houses.

Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, indicated that the session might conclude on February 9. He highlighted that the primary focus of the session will be on financial matters related to the Interim Union Budget for the year 2024-25, along with discussions on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address. Additionally, essential legislative and other business will be addressed during this session.
