In a dazzling display of dominance, Sri Lanka swept aside Afghanistan in a commanding seven-wicket victory in the third and final ODI at Pallekele, sealing a comprehensive 3-0 whitewash of the series.
Afghanistan, after a promising start with fifties from Rahmat and Omarzai, suffered a dramatic collapse, losing six wickets for just 43 runs and ultimately being bundled out for 266. Sri Lanka’s bowlers, led by Madushan who claimed three wickets for 45 runs, put the visitors under immense pressure, restricting their total.
Facing a target of 267, Sri Lanka’s batsmen made light work of the chase, reaching the mark in just 35.2 overs. The heroics were led by Pathum Nissanka, who notched up his second century of the series with a magnificent 118 off 101 balls. Nissanka’s stellar performance not only propelled him to the top of the run-scorers’ list in the series with 346 runs but also saw him achieve the milestone of becoming the fastest Sri Lankan to reach 2000 ODI runs, achieving the feat in just 53 games.
