Guwahati: In a significant breakthrough, the Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) has apprehended Haris Farooqi, alias Harish Ajmal Faruqi, the alleged head of ISIS in India, along with one of his associates, Rehan. The duo, who were on the National Investigation Agency’s most wanted list, were arrested in Assam’s Dhubri district after illegally entering from neighbouring Bangladesh.

Led by Inspector General of Police Parthasarathi Mahanta, a team of the Special Task Force launched an operation to apprehend Farooqi and his associate. Acting on credible information, the team initiated a search operation near the international border between India and Bangladesh. The operation culminated in the successful arrest of the two individuals in the Dharmasala area of Dhubri after they crossed the border.

According to statements released by the authorities, Farooqi and Rehan are accused of furthering the interests of ISIS in India by engaging in activities such as recruitment, terror funding, and planning terrorist acts involving improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in various parts of the country.
