Meenakshi Lekhi Rebukes Audience for Silence on ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ at Youth Conclave
In a dramatic turn of events at a youth conclave in Kerala, Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi Rebukes Audience
In a dramatic turn of events at a youth conclave in Kerala, Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi expressed her displeasure as a section of the audience refrained from chanting the patriotic slogan ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ despite her repeated appeals. The conclave, organized by right-wing groups in the state, witnessed a tense moment as Lekhi questioned the audience’s commitment to their homeland.
Visibly upset, Lekhi concluded her speech with an enthusiastic chant of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and urged the audience to join in. However, when the response fell short of expectations, she openly questioned whether India was not considered the motherland by everyone present.
Addressing the audience, Lekhi remarked, “I see you guys sitting with your hands folded. Is Bharat only my mother or your mother as well? Tell me…Tell me…Is there any doubt? No doubt?… Enthusiasm needs to be expressed.”
Expressing disappointment with the lackluster response, she specifically called out a woman in the audience, urging her to stand up. Lekhi emphasized that if someone felt hesitant or embarrassed to express pride in their nation, they should reconsider their participation in the conclave.
“The lady in yellow (dress) can stand up. Don’t look on to the sides. This is how I am going to speak to you. I am going to ask you a straight question. Bharat is not your mother?… Why this attitude?” she questioned.
In a bold statement, Lekhi suggested that individuals who do not feel a sense of pride in their nation and find it embarrassing to speak about India should consider leaving the event.
The incident reflects the ongoing debate surrounding expressions of patriotism and the differing perspectives on nationalistic fervor in public spaces. The confrontation at the youth conclave highlights the passionate stance of some leaders on the issue.
