In a significant push for Assam’s development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a series of projects on Sunday with an estimated value of nearly Rs 11,600 crore. These projects are poised to enhance connectivity, promote tourism, and generate employment in the northeastern state.

Among the major projects initiated were the Kamakhya temple corridor, a six-lane road connecting the new airport terminal in Guwahati, the upgradation of Nehru Stadium to FIFA standards, and the construction of a new sports complex in Chandrapur.

Addressing a public gathering at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara, PM Modi stated, “The inauguration of projects worth Rs 11,000 crore will strengthen the connectivity of Assam and the northeast with other countries of South Asia. These projects will create more job opportunities, particularly in the tourism sector.” The Prime Minister shared these insights following a vibrant roadshow.

Taking a dig at the Congress party, which had previously governed the state and the nation, PM Modi remarked, “After independence, those in power for years failed to grasp the importance of sacred places of worship.”

“For political gains, they initiated a trend of being ashamed of their own culture and history. No country can progress by neglecting its history. But, in the last ten years, the situation in the country has changed,” he asserted. “Our pilgrimages, temples, and places of faith are not just tourist destinations; they are indelible signs of our civilization’s journey over thousands of years. This testifies to how India stood firm in the face of every crisis,” he added.

As part of the projects, the second edition of Asom Mala roads was launched, featuring 43 new roads and 38 concrete bridges, with a total investment of Rs 3,444 crore. Additionally, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the integrated new building of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, a Rs 3,250-crore project. The foundation stones for the proposed Karimganj Medical College and Hospital (Rs 578 crore) and the Unity Mall in Guwahati (Rs 297 crore) were also unveiled.

Among the inaugurated projects were the four-lane road from Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur (Rs 1,451 crore) and the four-lane road from Dolabari to Jamuguri (Rs 592 crore). PM Modi is scheduled to conclude his visit after the program on Sunday afternoon.

The Prime Minister, who arrived at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport from Odisha on Saturday evening, spent the night at the Koinadhara State Guest House. During his visit to Odisha, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for projects valued at over Rs 68,000 crore in Sambalpur. These projects are aimed at boosting the energy sector, involving natural gas, coal, and power generation, along with crucial initiatives in road, railway, and higher education sectors.
