New Delhi: In a shocking turn of events, a 31-year-old woman has been arrested for orchestrating an elaborate robbery at her mother’s residence in Uttam Nagar, Delhi. The accused, identified as Shweta, resorted to donning a burqa to conceal her identity while stealing gold and silver jewelry, along with ₹25,000 in cash, intended for her sister’s upcoming wedding.

The incident came to light when Shweta’s mother, Kamlesh, reported the robbery to the police on January 30. Initial investigations by the authorities revealed no signs of forced entry, raising suspicions about someone within the family. Subsequent analysis of CCTV footage in the vicinity identified a woman in a burqa entering the house, leading to Shweta’s arrest.

During interrogation, Shweta confessed to hatching the plan out of jealousy, asserting that her mother favored her younger sister. Her resentment and financial troubles, as she claimed, drove her to execute the burglary. Some of the stolen jewelry belonged to Shweta, while the rest was crafted by her mother for her sister’s wedding.

The accused revealed a calculated approach to executing the crime, including temporarily moving out of her mother’s house in January to set the plan in motion. Taking advantage of her mother’s visits to assist her in arranging the new residence, Shweta gradually prepared for the robbery.

On the day of the theft, Shweta pilfered the keys to her mother’s house and, under the pretext of buying vegetables, stepped out from her new residence. She then used a public toilet to disguise herself in a burqa before entering her mother’s house. Using the stolen keys, she gained access to the main door and cupboard, making off with the valuable items.

Shweta’s calculated moves extended to feigning concern when Kamlesh discovered the robbery, attempting to divert suspicion. The accused confessed to selling the stolen jewelry, but the police have successfully recovered the items. The shocking incident highlights a complex interplay of family dynamics, resentment, and financial strain, leading to a daughter resorting to criminal activities against her own family.
